A useful website for Listening&Pronunciation

Dear all,
The following is a useful link suggested by three students at Mersin University ELT Program, as a part of their website evaluation project. See how detailed their descriptions are.
http://claweb.cla.unipd.it/home/mcanapero/listening.htm

This website contains listening and pronunciation exercises and passages taken from scientific publications. Users have the chance of both listening and reading the passages. Also, there are links to online listening and pronunciation practice and live radio in the website. The website consists of four main sections. Each sections contains subtitles. When users click on these subtitles, they can see the texts while they are listening to the passages.

  • First section is DICTATIONS. There are some short passages about science in this section. Users have the chance of reading the text while listening.
  • Second section is LISTENING & PRONUCATION. In this section, there are words relating to nuclear power, radiation, habitats and environmental degradation. These words are pronounced one by one in the section. This exercise is helpful in terms of learning correct pronunciation and stress of the words. Also, there is an Elementary Chemistry Quiz. The speaker gives some clues about the element and the user tries to guess. He/she can see the answers and read some extra information about the elements. Additionally, there are some exercises which include phonetics of English sounds. This section enable the users to find vowel sounds, diphthongs and difficult consonants one by one. Also, there are sample words for each sounds.
  • The third section is READING PASSAGES. In this part, there are reading passages about science. These passages are voiced and users can read the texts.
  • The last section is LISTENING & SPEAKING. There are a lot of exercises in this section. The website arranges a 5 –week course to improve listening and speaking skills.

Enjoy the experience.
